Lawn to Wildflower Meadow Part 3

Late Summer has been busy in the meadow it has been amazing to see how many pollinators and insects have taken up residence in such a short space of time. The Meadow will be cut sometime late September/Early October  after the flowers have set seed with the Yarrow being the last flower to set seed but not before the flower has gone from White to Purple, and the meadow changing from Summer green to Autumn Brown

Early Morning Meadow

By cutting a meandering path through your meadow where you can never see the end gives one a feeling of adventure and makes you feel part of the meadow.

The Meadowscape Pro was installed to a depth of 25mm and was well watered on the 20th March which was the start of a very dry Spring.

3 Types of Meadowscape were laid those being the Landscape 34, Native Enriched and the Shade Tolerant. Seed started to germinate a month later the first photo was taken on 23 April.

The 4th photo was taken on the 22nd May showing a distant shot of the meadow the plants were well established now.

Photos 5 and 6 were taken on June 11th with the Poppies, Vypers Buglos and Borage coming into flower. The Bees and other  pollinators were were soon in abundance  in this now thriving meadow. The last photos were taken on the 1st of August and our transformation from lawn to meadow is complete!

Lawn to Wildflower Meadow Part 1

Having used Meadowscape Pro many times at Wildflower Turf.  I set about the challenge of converting this area of Pembrokeshire from lawn to wildflower meadow in 12 weeks. The area concerned was as on made up ground with more stone than soil it seemed and had been previously sown with a Ryegrass  and Fescue Mix. By using Meadowscape Pro very little ground preparation work was required which was ideal for this situation with such a high stone content.

It was impossible to use a turf cutter  to remove the existing turf or going to the additional expense of bringing in top soil and with it the probability of importing a new weed seed bank at the same time. So the area was sprayed off with glyphosate and we waited.

This Photo shows our finished wildflower meadow a different picture to what is was like at the beginning of April this year.Over the next few weeks we will show you how we went from lawn to a wildflower meadow bursting with life.
